NeoGraft Hair Restoration FAQs

What Is NeoGraft Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)? – NeoGraft is an automated hair transplant system. It allows technicians to harvest hair follicles in a precise way, dramatically improving the accuracy and speed over previously used manual extraction instruments.

What is an FUE hair transplant? – FUE stands for “Follicular-Unit Extraction.” It is an advanced, minimally invasive hair transplant method. With FUE, individual hair follicles are harvested from the donor area without a scalpel. There is no incision or stitching, and therefore no linear scar.

What are the main benefits of FUE vs FUT (or strip) Hair Transplant? – FUE transplants heal faster and more comfortably than strip harvest techniques. With FUE, once healing is complete, the patient has the option of wearing a very short haircut without the worry of a telltale linear scar. Since it is a non-surgical solution, downtime is shorter with fewer activity restrictions than with FUT hair transplants.

What are some benefits of NeoGraft over manual FUE techniques? – NeoGraft is a highly ergonomic mechanical system. It is designed to work as a natural extension of the technician’s hand, allowing for faster and more accurate harvesting of hair follicles.

At Solano Plastic Surgery, we use NeoGraft to help patients reach their goal with less time in the procedure room and/or fewer FUE procedures altogether.

Who performs this procedure at Solano Plastic Surgery?

Hair transplant is a cooperative effort involving our doctor’s and our NeoGraft technicians. Dr Klink and Dr Sykes consult with patients using their medical expertise and training to develop an optimal treatment plan. Then, on procedure day, our skilled transplant technician’s harvest and place the grafts under the direct and watchful supervision of our surgeons.

Our technicians have performed thousands of grafts, giving them unsurpassed experience and expertise.

How are the results of FUE/NeoGraft hair transplant different than those achieved with strip surgery?

Results are similar, but the FUE process is more patient-friendly. The difference is not in the area of hair growth, but rather in how the donor area is harvested. The difference in harvesting makes a difference in recovery, scarring, and natural looking results.

Is NeoGraft hair transplantation suitable for men and women?

Yes. NeoGraft is a minimally invasive procedure viable for both men and women who want to restore living and growing hair with non-surgical transplantation.

Will I end up with a ‘buzz cut’ after a NeoGraft procedure?

When a patient’s donor hair is long enough, harvesting with NeoGraft can be accomplished by simply shaving small areas of the scalp, which can be covered by other, existing hair. If you wear your hair short, it helps to shave it close for maximum yield. This will also help your transplant look natural sooner as the transplanted grafts are short as well.

Gynecomastia & Laser Treatment FAQs

The use of SlimLipo to treat gynecomastia is an exciting innovation in body contouring for men. For many patients at Solano Plastic Surgery, it represents freedom from years of physical and emotional unease. Dr Klink’s patients are generally unfamiliar with the use of lasers to destroy fatty and glandular tissue on the chest and frequently ask these questions:

What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a medical condition that causes the glands and/or fatty tissue of a man’s breasts to enlarge. The change makes the breasts look more like a woman’s breasts than the flattened, round breast of a man.

Why do I have gynecomastia?

A variety of factors can contribute to the development of gynecomastia, but generally it is caused by hormone fluctuations during the teen years or after age 50.

When is the best time to have gynecomastia surgery?

Dr Klink makes this determination on a patient-by-patient basis. In some cases, it is appropriate for patients between the ages of 16 and 18, but only if their breast development has been stable for at least two years. We also treat older men with gynecomastia, with the understanding that age can affect the skin’s elasticity, making it less likely the skin will retract after traditional gynecomastia surgery. With SlimLipo, however, Dr Klink is able to achieve both skin tightening and the removal of excess tissue.

What are the best surgical treatments for gynecomastia?

Enlarged breasts may be excess fatty tissue (pseudogynecomastia) rather than breast tissue and, in this case, can often be improved with diet and exercise alone. To treat the puffy nipples associated with gynecomastia, some patients will need liposuction combined with chest reduction, using glandular excision.

The “best” treatment depends on what is best for an individual patient. If you’re considering gynecomastia surgery, a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr Klink is the best way to determine an optimal treatment plan based on your physique and your goals.

What are the main advantages of laser lipolysis for gynecomastia with SlimLipo?

SlimLipo allows expert plastic surgeons such as Dr Klink to create the smoothest, best body-contouring results in men with gynecomastia. The treatment entails only a short recovery time and only minimal discomfort is involved.

In addition, SlimLipo is safer than traditional liposuction and more effective. Unlike liposuction, it tightens the skin around the treatment area.

How does SlimLipo work to treat excess breast tissue in men?

SlimLipo works on the same principle as other laser-assisted cosmetic surgery techniques. It utilizes two different wavelengths of light to disrupt fat and tighten skin.

During the procedure, fat and glandular tissue ruptures and liquefies and is then, with the help of a suction device, siphoned out of the body through a thin, hollow tube called a cannula.

What happens to the fat?

Fat cells are undamaged, but they react to the laser light by emptying themselves of water, glycerol, and fatty acids. Following a treatment, the body then rapidly absorbs the glycerol or sugar while the water carries away the free fatty acids through the lymphatic system and the kidneys. They are then passed out of the body in your urine.

Is a hospital stay required for laser lipolysis for gynecomastia?

No. Dr Klink’s patients are treated in our comfortable, state-of-the-art day surgery and are able to return home the same day.

Facelift FAQs

A facelift is a complex procedure that requires the medical skill and aesthetic artistry of an experienced professional such as Dr Sykes and Dr Klink. Here’s what you need to know:

What is a facelift? – It’s a surgical procedure that is used to rejuvenate the face and give it a more youthful appearance. Your facelift is customized to your anatomy and your goals. The placement of incisions, amount of skin removed, direction of lifting and direction of incisions are all tailored by our surgeons to ensure optimal results.

What is the best age to have a facelift? – Most patients at Solano Plastic Surgery are 40 or over, but there is no “right” age for this procedure. If you have sagging tissues and wrinkled skin and are healthy enough to undergo surgery, then a facelift may be right for you, regardless of your age. Whether or not a facelift is appropriate for you and what type of facelift is indicated, will be determined during your preliminary consultation.

Who is a good candidate for a facelift? – A good candidate is a patient who wants to reduce sagging skin in the face and neck. Ideal candidates have a certain degree of elasticity left in the skin and a strong bone structure, and are close to their ideal body weight.

Are there different types of facelifts? – Yes. A complete facelift corrects visible signs of facial aging in every area from the lower lids and cheeks to the bottom of the neck. A mid facelift targets the area from the top of the cheekbones to the corners of the mouth. A face and neck lift focuses on correcting premature aging in the lower face and neck area.

How long does facelift surgery take?

A routine facelift generally takes from 2-4 hours, depending on the patient and the exact procedure.

What type of anesthesia is used for a facelift?

Depending on the exact technique, a facelift procedure is often performed with general anesthesia. Sometimes, if minimal surgery is required, local anesthesia with sedation is an option.

What results can I expect from a facelift?

No two facelifts will yield the same results, as each person’s facial anatomy is unique. That being said, our experience with a broad range of facial types and characteristics enables us to predict with accuracy what results can be expected.

How long do the benefits of a facelift last?

The duration of the benefits of a facelift depend on a number of factors: skin quality, sun damage, weight changes, age, genetics, hormonal changes, etc. For some people, the results last a lifetime, while others may need touch ups. Our surgeons and staff talk to patients about taking care of their skin and making certain skin-friendly lifestyle changes following surgery to help maintain their facial rejuvenation benefits.

What do I need to do before I have a facelift?

Prior to scheduling a facelift at Solano Plastic Surgery, you will meet with Dr Sykes or Klink for a pre-operative appointment and consultation. At that time, you will have an in-depth discussion covering your health, the details of the procedure, post-operative expectations, and potential risks and costs. You will also be given a list of medications to discontinue before your facelift.

What is the recovery like after a facelift?

The recovery for a facelift procedure is not as hard as many patients anticipate. Patients go home the same day as their surgery. Pain and swelling are to be expected, and you will want to lie with two pillows to elevate your head so you are comfortable. Sutures are removed 5-10 days after surgery, at which time a good deal of the swelling will have subsided and any bruising will begin to disappear.

What are the risks of facelift surgery?

Although serious complications with a facelift are rare, there are risks associated with surgery and anesthesia. They include abnormal facial contour, bleeding, blistering, discoloration, facial weakness, slow healing, hematoma, infection and nerve damage.

Are there scars after a facelift?

Yes. Scars are unavoidable. Whenever an incision is made in the skin, there is a scar. That being said, an expert facial plastic surgeon has the skill to ensure that whatever scarring does occur is imperceptible. He takes pride in meticulously placing sutures for optimal facelift results with minimal visible scarring.

Laser-Assisted Liposuction FAQs

How does SlimLipo contour the body?

SlimLipo is a laser-assisted fat removal procedure. It combines liposuction and laser techniques to melt and remove unwanted fat from areas of the face and body while also helping to tighten the surrounding skin.

What areas of the body can be treated with SlimLipo?

SlimLipo is appropriate for contouring many areas of the face and body where stubborn body fat lingers. The most commonly treated areas include the neck, arms, love handles, stomach, thighs and knees.

How is SlimLipo different from other laser or traditional liposuction techniques?

SlimLipo offers greater precision, less risk, and less downtime than other laser-assisted liposuction procedures. SlimLipo also produces a skin-tightening effect that is impossible to achieve with traditional liposuction techniques. Finally, SlimLipo is performed with tumescent anesthesia, which facilitates fat removal and decreases bruising.

Is SlimLipo laser-assisted liposuction safe?

When performed by a plastic surgery expert such as Dr Klink at Solano Plastic Surgery, laser-assisted liposuction is an extremely safe, minimally invasive procedure that produces outstanding results. Risks or complications are generally rare or minor and may include bleeding, swelling, bruising and discomfort.

Who is a good candidate for laser lipolysis?

Candidates for SlimLipo include men and women who are in general good health and who would like to remove unwanted, localized pockets of fat from specific areas of the body. Because every patient is different, the best way to know if SlimLipo is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr Klink at our practice.

Where is the SlimLipo procedure performed?

Dr Klink performs laser-assisted liposuction on an outpatient basis at our practice rooms. This gives our patients an added level of comfort and ease during their procedure.

How long does the SlimLipo procedure take to perform?

Typically, a SlimLipo treatment typically takes between one and three hours to complete, depending on the area being treated.

What type of anesthesia is used during a SlimLipo procedure?

Dr Klink typically performs this surgery with general anesthesia. Smaller areas may be appropriate for a local anesthetic with intravenous sedation. Sedation may be provided if necessary to ensure that each patient is comfortable and relaxed.

What happens during laser-assisted liposuction at Solano Plastic Surgery?

During the SlimLipo treatment, Dr Klink inserts a laser through very small incisions to liquefy stubborn body fat for removal. The laser also helps to tighten the skin in the treatment area.

Are there scars after undergoing SlimLipo?

One of the reasons Dr Klink and his patients are so enthusiastic about laser-assisted liposuction is that the very small incisions made in the treatment area result in minimal scarring.

What is recovery like after laser-assisted liposuction?

Thanks to Dr Klink’s expert technique, recovery after a SlimLipo treatment is generally mild and shorter compared to other traditional liposuction methods. Many of our patients experience some bruising and swelling. It takes about a week for the bruising and swelling to dissipate, and during this time, a compression garment will need to be worn.

Can I go back to work after a SlimLipo treatment?

The majority of Dr Klink’s patients return to work and other normal activities within 2-5 days after their SlimLipo treatment. In order to promote healing, patients are advised to postpone strenuous activities for several weeks.

When will I see results of my SlimLipo treatment?

The results of SlimLipo are initially masked by swelling and bruising. Once these after-affects subside (in a week or so), changes will start to become noticeable and improvement will continue over several months.

Is laser-assisted liposuction painful?

Dr Klink is extremely skilled and experienced using SlimLipo and has developed his technique so that there is typically little discomfort associated with this procedure.

Are results permanent?

Patients who follow a sensible diet and exercise program can expect the results of liposuction with SlimLipo to be permanent.

Kybella FAQs

If you are unhappy with excess fat beneath your jaw, Kybella treatments administered by the expert doctors at our practice may be able to give you your happy back. As one of the few providers in the country of this one-of-a-kind therapy, the team at Solano Plastic Surgery is uniquely qualified to help you achieve your aesthetic goals without undergoing surgery.

Kybella has only recently been approved by the FDA, so you may not yet be familiar with all of its benefits.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a cosmetic injectable with the active ingredient of deoxycholic acid. It is the first and only non-surgical, prescription treatment approved by the FDA to be used in adults to improve moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat).

What causes a double chin (submental fullness)?

Submental fullness in men and women is caused by aging, genetics or weight gain. Submental fullness is typically resistant to diet and exercise, making it particularly difficult for patients to remedy double chins.

Are there other treatment options for a double chin?

Kybella is the only FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment available today to treat submental fullness. Alternatives to Kybella are more invasive techniques such as liposuction and surgery.

How does a Kybella injection work?

Kybella’s power comes from deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that assists in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When Kybella is injected into the fat beneath the chin, it pierces cell membranes and destroys fat cells. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so patients lose their double chin and enjoy a slimmer jawline.

What happens before my treatment?

To ensure that Kybella injections are the best solution for your double chin and will provide the best lower facial rejuvenation goals, our experts do a physical exam to determine the extent of your submental fullness. A customized treatment plan will be developed for you, and the anticipated results of your treatment will be reviewed. If you choose to proceed, you can opt to have your first treatment session at that time.

How is Kybella administered?

Kybella treatments are administered exclusively by the medical doctors at Solano Plastic Surgery. The injections are made into the fat cells under the chin, personalized to the treatment goals of the patient. Each in-office treatment session takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

During your consultation, the team at Solano Plastic Surgery will develop your treatment plan, which will include the number of sessions required to give you your desired chin profile. Some patients may require as few as two treatments while others may need up to six treatments to achieve full freedom from double chins.

How quickly do the results appear and how long do they last?

Generally, optimal results will be seen within two weeks to two months of treatment. Once destroyed, cells treated with Kybella can no longer store or accumulate fat. Therefore, once a patient’s aesthetic goal is achieved, retreatment with Kybella is generally not needed.

What are the side effects of Kybella injections?

The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. When administered by someone who is not a medical doctor or a practitioner without sufficient training and experience, Kybella injections can cause more serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can lead to an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

Mommy makeovers are now discussed frankly and openly, but you may still have questions. We hope these will answer them:

What is a Mommy Makeover?

“Mommy Makeover” is an affectionate term used to describe cosmetic surgery procedures aimed at correcting changes to a woman’s breasts and abdomen following childbirth. The most common procedures performed alone or together as part of a mommy makeover are abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast enhancement (breast lift and/or augmentation) and fat removal with liposuction.

Who is a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

A woman in overall good health who wants to correct physical changes related to pregnancy is a good candidate for the procedure. It is also important to have realistic expectations about the benefits of the surgery.

What can I expect in my initial consultation?

In order to develop a customized treatment plan, Dr Klink will ask about your general medical history and discuss your areas of concern. Based on your anatomy and your goals, you will work together to determine the best way to proceed.

Is a Mommy Makeover done all at one time?

A mommy makeover at Solano Plastic Surgery may involve several procedures including tummy tuck, breast enhancement, and liposuction. The procedures can be performed in one or two stages, depending on how many areas need to be addressed and a patient’s preferences.

What are the different options for a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is unique to each woman, but will generally involve one or more of the following:

  • Breast lift, with or without augmentation

  • Abdominoplasty (also known as a tummy tuck)

  • Liposuction for fat removal

Can I have more kids after my Mommy Makeover?

Patients who are planning to have more children in the near future are advised to wait for their mommy makeover, especially with abdominoplasty. The final, long- term results of mommy makeover surgeries may not be as good if the tissues are stretched again with another pregnancy.

Is a Mommy Makeover appropriate for people who have had a C-section?

Yes. Some women have bothersome extra skin that hangs over their caesarean section scar. Abdominoplasty can remove the scar and extra skin in order to smooth the contour.

When should I have my Mommy Makeover?

Ideally, women will seek a mommy makeover when they have finished growing a family and are at a stable weight. Significant weight gain or loss after surgery may diminish the final result.

What are the risks of a Mommy Makeover?

The procedures included in a Mommy Makeover are similar to most major operations. They include poor wound healing, bleeding, infection, and seroma (fluid collection) formation.

How do I prepare for my Mommy Makeover?

A baseline of good health is useful for any cosmetic enhancement procedure. During your preliminary consultation, you will be asked about your health and lifestyle. Dr Klink will make recommendations regarding medical issues (such as high blood pressure or diabetes) and medications that may affect surgery.

Smokers need to stop smoking in order to improve circulation and reduce the risk of complications related to wound healing. Dr Klink insists that all patients should be nicotine free for at least six weeks prior to and after surgery.

Will I have scars?

Yes. It is impossible to make an incision without leaving a scar. However, skilled aesthetic plastic surgeons like Dr Klink have mastered a variety of techniques to minimize incisions and hide scars. Additionally, once the incisions are fully healed, you will receive instructions on what you can do to minimize the scars and help them fade over time.

When can I resume normal activities after a Mommy Makeover?

Your recovery will depend on the procedures you choose. In most cases, it is wiser to have friends and family on call to assist you during the first few weeks after surgery. In most cases, recovery time ranges from one to four weeks.

How much does a Mommy Makeover cost?

Mommy Makeovers are considered cosmetic procedures, and insurance companies do not cover the costs.

The one exception is breast reduction. If the breasts are very large, causing shoulder, back, and neck pain, the insurance company may cover breast reduction surgery to alleviate these symptoms.

What is the Solano Plastic Surgery difference for patients who have a Mommy Makeover?

The short answer: Dr Brian Klink. Dr Klink is a highly trained plastic surgeon with extensive experience in aesthetic rejuvenation. He has earned the respect of his peers and the admiration of his patients during a career spanning more than two decades. Dr Klink’s experience is relevant, because many physicians who are not trained in plastic surgery are now performing cosmetic surgery with results that are less than optimal.
